Community
The West Monroe Fire Department is honored to serve our community! A few of the ways we show our appreciation is with our Community Outreach Programs. These are all free programs to the citizens of West Monroe.
Operation Save a Life
Our department offers smoke alarms to citizens of West Monroe at no cost! Not only will we provide the smoke alarms, we will gladly come install them for you as well. If you would like to request a smoke alarm or schedule a time to have them installed, please call our administration office at (318) 397-0758.
Home Hazard Assessment
Home Hazard Assessments are a chance for us to assist citizens of West Monroe in the identification of safety hazards within the home. This hazard assessment is a quick assessment covering the 20 most common hazards in a home, which lead to injury or death. It generally takes about 15 minutes and is a great opportunity for us identify and help correct any hazards before they cause harm. If you would like to schedule a Home Hazard Assessment, please contact our Administration Office at (318)397-0758.
Vial of L.I.F.E.
What is it? Vial of L.I.F.E. is an easily located source of information used by First Responders when they go to your house and find you unable to answer questions about your medical conditions, allergies, medications, advanced directives(Do Not Resuscitate orders), your doctor's name and phone number, and other valuable information that may save your life.
For Whom? Individuals over 60 years of age (especially those living alone), people whom English is a second language, and people with special heath concerns.
Why is this an important program? As First Responders, accurate information must be gathered in order to treat you properly. The Vial of L.I.F.E. packet will save us valuable time on a scene and improve the quality of treatment given to you. There are many instances where we respond to a patient only to find them unresponsive and the family or bystanders are unable to provide the needed information.
Exactly how does it work? The Vial of L.I.F.E. package includes an easy to fill out patient information form to be enclosed in the vial and placed inside the refrigerator door. Also, a sticker to be placed on the front door or window, and a refrigerator magnet. When any First Responder sees the sticker or magnet, they will know to look in the refrigerator for the vital information. This will save us valuable time during medical emergencies by providing useful information for our responding First Responders, so they can make accurate informed decisions about the treatment you need.
How much does it cost? This is a community outreach program which is conducted at no cost to our citizens.
Public Education / Station Tours
