The City of West Monroe in partnership with Downtown West Monroe Revitalization Group has announced a new event coming to the West Monroe community this spring.
City leaders and DWMRG representatives announced earlier today a new festival will take place in downtown West Monroe. Ouachita RiverFest, a day-long celebration highlighting the Ouachita River, will be held on Saturday, May 13.
The festival will include live musical entertainment, food vendors, arts and crafts vendors, a children’s area presented by Building Futures Pediatric Therapy and a rubber duck drop into the Ouachita River. The festival will also include the Ouachita RiverFest Big Bass Classic presented by The Honey Hole. This fishing tournament will launch from Lazarre Park.
“Ouachita RiverFest celebrates one of our area’s greatest natural assets – the Ouachita River,” said West Monroe Mayor Staci Mitchell. “We are excited to launch this new festival to the community in the West Monroe Cultural District and add to our region’s quality of life.”
Proceeds from Ouachita RiverFest will benefit the Downtown West Monroe Riverfront area which is currently under development. The riverfront property is owned by the City of West Monroe and includes a boat marina. Future plans include the construction of a public fishing pier, amphitheater and lookout area. In a recently completed citywide master plan and downtown West Monroe master plan, greater access to the Ouachita River was identified as a core desire by the public.
